1. Vacuum the stain to remove all loose particles. You can use a handheld vacuum cleaner or a regular vacuum cleaner with a soft bristle brush attachment over the stained area. When you initially vacuum, you will remove all loose dirt and debris and sometimes even slightly lighten the stain.
It is difficult to assess the severity of a vacuum cleaner without first vacuuming it, so you should always move the handheld vacuum cleaner or attachment to the upholstery first.
2.Mix dish soap and cold water to make a cleaning solution. Place a few drops of a mild detergent solution into a bowl or small bucket. Then add cold water from the faucet to create a foaming solution. You may need to shake your hands in the water first to create - a bit of foam.
You can add extra cleaning power to the solution by adding a little vinegar.
Some professionals recommend using distilled water to clean upholstered furniture because it doesn't leave mineral stains when it dries. If you're particularly worried about your sofa, or if it's very expensive, then keep this advice in mind - it's up to you!
3. Dampen a microfiber cloth with the solution, then gently blot the stain. Dip the cloth into the solution and wring it out thoroughly. Tap the stained area until the stain begins to come off. Continue blotting until the stain is gone. Avoid rubbing the fabric or blotting too deeply as this will cause the stain to cure further!
It is important not to wet the fabric. Therefore, only use a damp cloth and not a soaked one.
4. Wash off the soap mixture with a fresh cloth soaked in clean water. Dampen a new microfiber cloth with clean water and wring it out thoroughly. Continue wiping the stained area to remove the soap mixture from the fabric.

5. Dry the area by blotting the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel. Gently pat the wet area with a dry towel to absorb excess moisture from the fabric. If you need to speed up the drying process, try turning on a fan on the sofa or turning on a ceiling fan.
6. If soap and water are not enough, use a foaming fabric or carpet cleaner. Instructions may vary, but typically you will cover the stained area completely with the foam cleaner and let it sit for five to ten minutes. Then gently blot the stain with a microfiber cloth and allow the area to air dry. It's a good idea to test these cleaners on an inconspicuous area before using them on your couch cushions.
